Utility of Gender in PSO Course Closing Ceremony

After one week in PSOTC, PSOTC celebrated successful completion of the Utility of Gender in PSO Course on 27th April 2018.

The course covered issues like understanding importance of Gender in PSO, how to mitigate conflict related sexual violence, international and national legal frameworks relating to the incorporation of gender perspective in PSOs, the advantage of including women in the security sector using combined lecture/discussion lessons in combination with scenario driven case studies. The course provided participants with an understanding of applying gender perspective in the security sector and the importance of application of gender perspective on Peace Support Operations, as well as of Prevention Sexual Violence in Conflict. All in total, 40 students graduated from the course: 9 participants from Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, 5 from Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, 7 from different universities from Bosnia and Herzegovina, 1 from EUFOR and 18 international students from UK, Italy, Romania, Jordan, Morocco, Azerbaijan, Croatia and Montenegro. The course was delivered by direct support from the Atlantic Initiative Sarajevo, Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, US Embassy to Bosnia and Herzegovina (ODC) and UK Embassy to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Also, as a NATO department head for gender related education, representatives from the "Nordic Centre for Gender in Military Operations" (NCGM) led by Commanding officer, LtC Lars Berglund gave their contribution in delivering this course. At the closing ceremony participants was addressed by PSOTC Commandant, Colonel Edin Bajramović who congratulated the students and used this opportunity to express his support to the current course and all similar activities.
